Space Stations (1958)

Another re-scanning project book. The "adventure in Space" books with Willy Ley and John Polgreen are some of the best space art books from the 1950s. So this is a chance to show you some "better" scans of this beautiful art. I really don't have much to add except that copios of these books are widly available and worth finding.

Here are some links to other blog postings about these books:

Reader's Digest New Reading Skill Builder (1966)

Reader's Digest created a series of reading books for elementary school children adapting various stories and illustrating them. This one features a story of the far future, 1999!.  I like the illustrated cover painting by Fred Freeman and the "exciting" story about how you could imagine this far future when you grow up.

The key to the cover illustration

Space craft seem to be common
Color television big screens for everyone and ready to eat food that tastes like candy
Moving sidewalks
Picture phones, rocket belts, flying boats or maybe a short flight to the Moon?

Dream About Gagarin (1961)

Celebrating "Yuri's Night." This is the celebration of Yuri Gagarin 1st manned flight into space in Vostok 1, which completed one orbit of Earth on 12 April 1961. So this book is also from 1961 suggesting that children should dream of this adventure.

The World of Space (1955)

The World of Space was a pamphlet from 1955. It was a little like a children's annual with comic strips and stories. It had some very nice illustrations I wanted to share.

The World of Space. Illustrated by "Ron." England : P.R.  20 p. 24 cm. 1955?

The writing is "memorable"
