Dream About Gagarin (1961)

Celebrating "Yuri's Night." This is the celebration of Yuri Gagarin 1st manned flight into space in Vostok 1, which completed one orbit of Earth on 12 April 1961. So this book is also from 1961 suggesting that children should dream of this adventure.

The World of Space (1955)

The World of Space was a pamphlet from 1955. It was a little like a children's annual with comic strips and stories. It had some very nice illustrations I wanted to share.

The World of Space. Illustrated by "Ron." England : P.R.  20 p. 24 cm. 1955?

The writing is "memorable"

Mickey Mouse's Spaceship Pencil Box (1935)

A fun piece of ephemera today, a Mickey Mouse Pencil box from 1935.  People forget about the craze for Mickey Mouse in the 1930s, but they also forget how the revolutionary idea of rockets taking people into space was alos a current "fad". this captures in a whimsical way for children how people could travel into space.  There were a series of similar Dixon Mickey Mouse pencil boxes on different topics but this one particularly caught my eye (of course).

From the Weston's label inside they may have been a promotional/premium item with these crackers.
