Your Trip Into Space (1953) part 1

Poole, Lynn. Illustrated by Geary, Clifford. Your Trip into Space. New York: Whittlesey House. (224 p.) 21 cm. Cloth, DJ.

IT. Primary/secondary. Clifford Geary was the illustrator for many of the Robert Heinlein juvenile science fiction novels.  The book is heavily illustrated with spot illustrations accompanying the text. The book cover a variety of topics from rocket history and space flight testing, to a detailed description of a moon landing.  The author Lynn Poole was the well known host of a popular science program called, “The John Hopkins TV Science Review.”

In this description of protecting the rocket from meteors, I find this illustration below in poor taste for a juvenile book :)

In this section they discuss the "staging" concept to get rockets higher.

I will continue next week with the building of the space station and the trip to the moon!

  1. I loved this book as a kid, lost it, and reclaimed it a few years ago as an adult. Never saw the dust cover till today though. I thank you for posting and bringing back a good memory.
