Undersea Base (1974)

So a large change for today, instead of Outer Space books we are going to Inner Space with Undersea Base. I have blogged about Mae Freeman's book Space Base (1974) several times. In it she showed children visiting a space station in the future.  I recently found she had also written a children's book about futurist undersea exploration and children visiting an undersea base in the future. The late 60s and early 70s had an optimism about what might happen in the future and that shows in this lovely book. As a child of that time I remember being a big space flight fan and thinking about living in space as an astronaut and I also had dreams of living under the sea as an aquanaut.

Moon Adventure Coloring Story Book (1974)

Moon Adventure Coloring Story Book is very funny but not for the right reasons. It is poor drawn and inaccurate. It feels like "product" for parents to buy their child just to give them something about spaceflight.  So bad it is good! But also worth sharing as part of my mission to find all this spaceflight stuff for children. Enjoy!

"Preparing to Fly" (1974)

Sobirayemsya v polet - “Preparing to Fly” (1974)

The title was not translated when I bought it. The seller called it "Animals in Space" which was not right either. My readers rescued me and translated it for me. Thanks.

It is a paperback fictional children's book about animals taking a ride in a rocket. The nice extra feature is the hole on each page that lets you see a preview of an animal in the hold of what is on the next page.

Basically I just liked the pictures and it is too hot to work anyway, so enjoy!

A House in Space (1974)

It is harder and harder to find English language children's books that I have not shared before.  I still have a number stored to go through but in the meantime I keep finding new Russian ones. This one is a beauty since it highlights the Russian space shuttle.

House in space. M. Rebrov. Illustrated by Penny Yu.  28 pp. 1974 Pochemuchkiny Books series.

According to the seller: "The story of how Olga with her mother flew to visit "Papa", who runs the installer space on the space station."

Note that the illustrations of the launch vehicle don't seem to show a shuttle attached :)

I am using this one above as my current screensaver.

Really nice illustrations of a visit to a space station.
