Flight to The Moon (1969)

Flight to the Moon is based on the animated film of the same name from Soyuzmultfilm studio. I had not seen this comic before and love the illustrations.

Flight to the moon. Drawn by G. Kozlov. (12 pp.) 1969.

Note the symbol of the Soviet Union they are carrying.

Spacetrack :Watchdog of the Skies (1969)

Spacetrack is an unusual children's book. Still typical of Charles Coombs' illustrated military and space technology book but it is basically all about NORAD and the Deep Space Network. I find it fascinating that "Space War" was being contemplated  at this time and shared with children. Was this the roots of the new branch of the military "The Space Force?"

Coombs, Charles. Spacetrack: Watchdog of the Skies. New York: William Morrow and Co. (128 p.) 1969.

Exploring by Astronaut (1961)

Yet another book with great black and white illustrations. The artist is Helmut Wimmer who illustrated a number of books about space.

Branley, Franklyn M. Illustrated by Wimmer, Helmut K. Exploring by Astronaut: The Story of Project Mercury. New York: Thomas Y. Crowell. (104 p.) 1961.

This early description of Project Mercury is illustrated as Helmut created some very detailed and unique illustrations to accompany the text.

I Know An Astronaut (1972)

I Know An Astronaut was part of the "Community Helper" series of career books. It is interesting for being just post Apollo and talking about the space missions that have passed.

Rubinger, Michael. Illustrated by Snyder, Joel. I Know An Astronaut. New York: G. P. Putnam’s Sons. (46 p.) 1972.

I enjoy that Uncle Bill has a "cool" car and a "secret card". Don't all astronauts drive muscle cars? Gee I want to be an astronaut...
