The Mystery of Other Worlds Revealed (1952) part 3

For the last post about this book I wanted to share the above illustration about "space war".  This is one of the few I have found that pictured the military rational for going to the Moon. The U.S. was deep in the Cold War and the thought that whoever got to the Moon fist might dominate the Earth was consistently put forward as a reason to undertake the huge expense.

The second set of illustrations to share is this diagram of the building of a spherical space station. By publishing these fantastic engineering style illustrations it strongly suggests that going to space was simply a matter of will and money.

  1. I've never seen this approach to building a space station before. It's really fascinating though it certainly brings to mind visions of the Death Star!
