Man-Made Moons (1960)

Another book re-scanned. This one has some wonderful graphics and book design. The design is meant to be an example of isotype graphic design. This was a visual language created to unite the world without using words at all: International System Of Typographic Picture Education, or Isotype. It feel very streamlined. Since many of the pages double page spreads I scanned most of the book that way. I have another earlier space book also with a similar design concept. I last blogged about this book in 2010.

Valentina Tereshkova (Mujeres Celebres) (1967)

Celebrating 60 years ago when the first woman went into space.

This is a 1967 Spanish comic book highlighting famous women, in this case: Valentina Tereshkova. I last blogged about this in 2009 so it was time for an expansion. It is unusual to find a biographical comic book devoted to a single astro/cosmo naut. My Spanish is poor but the illustrations do a good job showing her background and a history of the event.  She is known for being the first and youngest woman in space, having flown a solo mission on the Vostok 6 on 16 June 1963. She orbited the Earth 48 times, spent almost three days in space, and remains the only woman to have been on a solo space mission.

To Other Planets (Estonian) (1962)

Teistele Planeetidele! This seems be be an Estonian translation and reprint of the book To Other Planets (1959).

I blogged about that book here on Feb 24, 2010: \

AND October 1, 2012 here: http://dreamsofspace.blogspot.com/2012/10/to-other-planets-1962.html

I continue to re-scan and expand some of my old posts. This is one of the better illustrated space books. The "heroic" style make me want to jump into my spacesuit and take off.

To Other Planets. Pavel Klushantsev, Art by E. Voishvillo and Y. Kiseleva. Eesti Riiklik, Soviet Estonia Tallinn. 79 p. (29.5 cm) 1962.

These are very beautiful Moon exploration paintings.
