Valentina Tereshkova (Mujeres Celebres) (1967)

Celebrating 60 years ago when the first woman went into space.

This is a 1967 Spanish comic book highlighting famous women, in this case: Valentina Tereshkova. I last blogged about this in 2009 so it was time for an expansion. It is unusual to find a biographical comic book devoted to a single astro/cosmo naut. My Spanish is poor but the illustrations do a good job showing her background and a history of the event.  She is known for being the first and youngest woman in space, having flown a solo mission on the Vostok 6 on 16 June 1963. She orbited the Earth 48 times, spent almost three days in space, and remains the only woman to have been on a solo space mission.

Hombres Del Espacio (1960)

So a fun one today. This is so silly and dated that I almost feel like apologizing, but I won't. This is the story of the exploration of space and has to be seen! It might have been assembled from stills from a Spanish film (I don't recognize it so feel free to tell me). But mostly it is just fun to read, even if you don't have any Spanish.

Hombres Del Espacio Number 1 (May 1960) 18 p.

El Sol y los Ninos : Viaje A Otro Mundo (1961)

This is a (1961?) children's supplement to the newspaper El Sol. Most I like the illustration as a nice piece of space art. The story "Viaje A Otro Mundo" translates as "A Trip to Another World." Enjoy!

Cohetes Espaciales (Space Rockets) (1961)

A punch-out book reprinting this 1958 English version: that I blogged about in 2014:

http://dreamsofspace.blogspot.com/2014/09/space-rockets-1958.html

There is no publication date on it so I am guessing approximately. I enjoy that they translated all the captions and vehicle labels. My copy is missing one page (sorry).

Cohetes Espaciales (Space Rockets). Barcelona : Organizacion Editorial Novaro, (6 p.) 13" x 7.5", 1961 (Ingeniosis Libros De Oro series)

An extra for you that was included when I bought this. I do not know its source.

Hombres En La Luna (1970)

This lovely oddity seems to be a book for Argentinian  publisher Editorial Sigmar (Buenos Aires), that was perhaps translated from a Japanese book.

Hombres En La Luna. Tetsushi Okamoto and Kenya Murano. Illustrations by takashi Yorimitsu. Gakken Co. Ltd, Tokio. 32 p. 29 cm. 1970.

I really like this fanciful illustrations of what you could do if you were on the moon.

And as usual there are some nice paintings of what our future moon base, and moon, Mars, and Venus exploration was going to look like.
