Our Defenders (1976)

Even if a bit inappropriate, given politics, here is a cool Russian pop-up book. Not really space flight oriented but still interesting. Our Defenders was a book illustrating the Russian military including battlefield rockets. The images are stereotypical of Soviet times and an interesting choice for a children's book.

Funny Pictures Magazine May (1976)

Another children's magazine from Russia. I enjoy the space pictures and the simple art. This issue has a nice space story comic.

Весёлые Картинки (Funny Pictures.) ( Komsomol “Veselye Kartinki”.) nr. 4, April 1976.

Santa and His Rocket Ship and Santa's Moon Rocket (1976?)

So this is a Christmas post based on some great pieces of ephemera I found about: "The Santa Claus Rocket." As part of holiday promotions shopping malls would have special Santa events to attract shoppers.  One of these available for rent was The Santa Claus Rocket. I found a number of pamphlets from the company about this rental and wanted to share. Is this what you want for Christmas? Well it may be stuck in the heads of those kids that did get to do this. And there is more, for an extra treat I have Santa's Moon Rocket too.

Kleiner Kosmonaut (1976)

So I am going to share a few more fictional children's books through April.  This one was brought to my attention by a friend and I really like it. Kleiner Kosmonaut (Little Cosmonaut) is a short board book about a Cosmonaut published in Berlin

Nerger, Erika and Elsbeth Friemert. Kleiner Kosmonaut. Halle Postreiter-Verlag, VEB. (12 p.) 16 x 22 cm. 1976.

The images came out a little small but "click" on them to appreciate this charming little book.

Respond Martians (1976)

Respond Martians. By  Klushancev. USSR. 1976

This is a reprint/updating of a 1968  Russian book I have blogged about before in 2015. http://dreamsofspace.blogspot.com/2015/08/respond-martians-1968-part-1.html

Our understanding of Mars changed a lot  in that short time so this book updated the illustrations and added some photographs of new probes.

A very nice stylized moon base.
