Hour of Space (1962)

This book is a soviet history of spaceflight and text heavy. what is notable about it are the color plates and some of the chapter header illustrations. I have many of these books so it is a treat to find something new to share. This is probably an adult popular book rather than a children's book and the art medium might be?

Man in Orbit (1962)

Man in Orbit (1962) is a beautiful book of paintings and the story of John Glenn's Mercury trip.
This is an example of some of the art hidden in these books that I haven't been able to blog about yet so I am excited to share this as a result of being stuck at home and having the time to dig deeper.

Junior Scholastic March 23 (1955)

A space issue of Junior Scholastic from 1955.  I am fascinated how these "school" newspapers give a parallel story of the the space age. For example this story about the United States will lead in space.

This story below is a little goofy. They took a picture of a moon base and used it to describe future airports.

The last story is about "Conquest of Space." Personally I find this a terrible film with great visuals. The creation of scenes that echo Chesley Bonestell's space paintings from Colliers is worth the effort (Also tuning the sound down may be required)

Beyond Tomorrow: The Next 50 Years in Space (1965)

Beyond Tomorrow is an "adult" book with great paintings. If you came across it as a child in the library, the coffee table, or in the rummage store you would have been changed for life by its visions.  Obscure now, it had multiple paintings by artist Roy G. Scarfo.  It is worth hunting down as a space art book but also for the visionary (and strange) essays about a possible future in space.
